Program Description

Join this unique, interdisciplinary program to study in Japan this January! To participate in this program, students will choose to enroll in either KIN 495: Introduction to Physical Culture in Japan or CCJS 375: Criminology and Criminal Justice in Japan. Both classes will travel together and learn about Japanese history and culture within the context of their class.

This 12-day program will begin in Tokyo, then travel to Kyoto followed by Hiroshima, spending 3 or 4 nights in each city with a day trip to Osaka. Students will visit the Ministry of Justice and the National Parliament in Tokyo, the Golden Pavilion of Kinkakuji, the Arashiyama bamboo forest, and the red tunnel of Fushimi Inari Shrine in Kyoto, and the Peace Memorial Park in Hiroshima, as well as other historical and culturally significant sights and city tours. Students will also have the opportunity to immerse in this cross-cultural academic experience by engaging with departments and individuals within their class context. Students will be able to try Japanese cuisine, practice Kendo, and experience Kagura dance and Japanese baseball culture.
